Craigslist fix
Posted by Leyna Krow • November 30, 2008 at 12:57 am

Ever wonder what kind of joy you might find if you typed “Jewish” into the search bar of Craigslist’s “Best-of-Craigslist” section? No? Just me then? Well, here are a few of the particularly choice posts anyway.

-Virgin Mary: Free to good home

-Beware of what lurks on JDate

-Not a pervert, just creepy

-Goats for the holidays

You’re welcome.

This season of peace on earth and good will toward men
Posted by Leyna Krow • November 30, 2008 at 12:15 am

I’m not judging. Do not misconstrue this as judging. I’m just saying, please people, this cannot be right.

Three violent deaths in two stores marred the opening of the Christmas shopping season Friday.

In the first, a temporary Wal-Mart employee was trampled to death in a rush of thousands of early morning shoppers as he and other employees attempted to unlock the doors of a Long Island, New York, store at 5 a.m., police said.

In the second, unrelated incident, two men were shot dead in a Toys “R” Us in Palm Desert, California, after they argued in the store, police said.

Mumbai Terror
Posted by Boris Kurbanov • November 28, 2008 at 12:33 pm

I am deeply saddened by the loss of Rabbi Gavriel Noach Holtzberg and his wife, Rivka, who were among more than 150 killed in Wednesday’s senseless attacks.

Rabbi Holtzberg, 29, was born in Israel and moved to Brooklyn, New York,  when he was nine; Rivka Holtzberg, 28, was a native of Afula, Israel, according to CNN. In 2003, the Holtzbergs moved to Mumbai to run the local Chabad House.

The motive behind the attacks in Mumbai remains unclear, but should remind each and every one of us that terrorism is very real and Jews are still targeted around the world.

I think a lot of people (and counter-terrorism) folks are still trying to understand how this could have happened right under India’s nose and in the financial capital. Another question is why? Why was the Chabad House targeted along with attacks on movie theaters, restaurants and hotels?

Time will tell. And those responsible will be brought to justice.

This is a very sad day for the global Jewish community.

Today in amazingly pointless Hitler news
Posted by Leyna Krow • November 26, 2008 at 12:56 pm

From the Seattle Times:

Federal agents have recovered an 18-carat gold bookmark reportedly belonging to Adolph Hitler during an undercover sting at a Bellevue Starbucks and arrested the 37-year-old Romanian man who was trying to sell it.

So that’s kind of odd. Mostly because, what kind of man would even own a gold bookmark?

It was reportedly given to Hitler by his girlfriend, Eva Braun, in 1943 as consolation for the defeat of his army at Stalingrad.

Ah, well, that explains it.

Maybe I should go to synagogue
Posted by Joel Magalnick • November 26, 2008 at 11:36 am

This just in from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine:

Study: Attending Religious Services Sharply Cuts Risk of Death
Yeshiva and Einstein researchers urge more research to determine why

Maybe that explains all the beards…
