Confession: I find Hitler humor amusing
Posted by Leyna Krow • September 09, 2010 at 9:41 pm

Many people are offended by Hitler jokes. Because, ummm, Holocaust. And also, ummmm, still too soon. Totally understandable. I however, am not one of those people. If you feel similarly, then you may enjoy The Very Best of Hipster Hitler. It is good, clean fun with a tiny mustache.

Without comment, I present these two very different and very wonderful videos and very absurd. Their intent, and mine, is to wish you a Happy 5771.

Rush Hashanah
Posted by Eric Nusbaum • September 08, 2010 at 9:23 am

VH1 will be bringing in the Jewish New Year with a special Rush Hashanah celebration. Starting tonight, Wednesday Sept. 8, the channel will show 24 hours of exclusively Rush content—documentaries, music videos, etc. Lead singer and bass player Geddy Lee is the Jewish son of Holocaust survivors and among Canada’s greatest Jewish rockers (all due respect to Leonard Cohen and the one dude from Barenaked Ladies).

Rush fan or not, if you don’t love this opening riff, you don’t love rock n’ roll music.

The Bible: The MMO!
Posted by Lillian Cohen-Moore • September 07, 2010 at 12:06 pm

This is seriously the coolest thing I’ve seen all day. Honest.

Okay. So, link hop with me for a second. New Voices Blog, blogger David A.M. Wilensky, gets the hat-tip for linking to the Rachel Wagner essay on the Lord and His possible altering of the MMO experience.  You can read the essay here: http://www.religiondispatches.org/archive/culture/3272/will_god-gaming_alter_the_bible/

In other news, I’m trying to decide if I’m brave enough to go home and try to find out if the Beta of the game still has slots. I mean, I never liked Civ, or the Sims, but as Wagner said, this thing has some midrashic potential. And I love midrash. And gaming. Admittedly, I’m not sure if I love my midrash in my gaming.

A Complete History Of The Soviet Union Through The Eyes Of A Humble Worker
Posted by Lillian Cohen-Moore • September 07, 2010 at 11:35 am

And it’s arranged to the melody of Tetris!

The video, from English musical group Pig With The Face Of A Boy, supplies a surprisingly well-detailed summary of Soviet Russian history, to the melody of Tetris. Between Russian relatives who jumped ship once the Czar was assassinated to my love of video games, I had to share it.
